RAK excavation risk sits mostly around the quarry and industrial belt in the north, where heavy plant runs on buried high-voltage feeds, and around the coastal development at Al Marjan and Al Hamra, where new infrastructure is being laid into ground that already holds several generations of services. We survey the dig area with the Proceq GS8000, mark what is buried on the surface, and issue a report before the machines start.
Around Khor Khwair the buried services are not domestic scale — they are the power feeds running crushers and conveyors, and process water lines feeding plant. A strike there is not a repair bill and an apology, it is a production stoppage across the site. These are also the sites where the service layout grew with the plant and was never drawn up properly.
The northern ground is rock and compacted gravel rather than the sand most UAE surveys run over. Returns from the near surface are strong, but hard layers can mask what sits beneath them and coarse gravel scatters the signal. We will tell you on site where the ground is limiting the survey, because a report that implies clear ground below a masking layer is worse than no report.
Al Marjan and Al Hamra are reclaimed, and reclaimed ground carries saline moisture that attenuates radar quickly. Depth here is usually at the lower end of the range. It is still worth surveying — the services being struck on these sites are shallow anyway — but we set the expectation before we quote rather than after we survey.
