Are Al Ain buildings post-tensioned?
Less often than Dubai towers. Much of the Al Ain stock is conventionally reinforced concrete, particularly the older institutional and government buildings. That does not remove the need to scan — it changes what the risk is, from a tendon strike to cutting primary reinforcement or a cast-in service. We establish which construction type we are dealing with on site before marking anything.
Can you scan in an occupied hospital or school?
Yes, and it is a large part of our work here. GPR is non-destructive and emits low-power electromagnetic pulses, so there is no radiation, no exclusion zone and no need to clear adjacent rooms. Where the building needs the work outside teaching or clinical hours we scan in the evening or at weekends instead.
How long does a scan take?
A handful of penetrations in one area is usually an hour or two on site including set-up and marking. A full floor plate, or scanning spread across several buildings, is scoped by area. We confirm timing and price once we know the number of penetrations and how they are distributed.
