How we surveyed it

  • Proceq GS8000 dual-band stepped-frequency ground penetrating radar, positioned with the Proceq MA8000 GNSS receiver.
  • Two lines were scanned along the proposed pipe route on the same evening, with points of interest tagged on site as the cart moved.
  • Every metre of recorded data was reviewed as consecutive scan sections, not only the points tagged on site, so features the operator did not mark in the field were still reported.
  • Tagged points were plotted on the client's pipework drawing.
  • Depths are given as indicative comments on the scan image scale. The instrument's default depth scale tends to understate true depth, so every depth must be confirmed by trial pit or hand excavation.

What the report said

  • 27 points were tagged on the first line and 12 on the second. The reports described each in plain terms, for example signs of a backfilled trench crossing the road.
  • Reviewing the full recording found five further anomalies that had not been tagged on site, and the reports listed them alongside the tagged points.
  • Each report named its busiest stretch, where several features cross the route close together, so the excavation crew knew where to slow down.

What the client received

  • Two branded PDF survey reports, one per line, of 21 and 16 pages.
  • Reports dated 25 September 2026, fourteen days after the survey.
  • 25 scan section images with written comments tying each reflection to the on-site point labels.
  • Route map and detected points plotted on the client's drawing.
  • A recommendation to excavate manually and slowly within the affected zones.

Limitations we reported

  • The first 14 m and the last 80 m of one line were flagged to be treated with caution.
  • Some deeper readings were reported as weak and to be treated with caution, not as confirmed services.
  • Positioning was by standalone GNSS without RTK correction, so plotted positions are accurate to roughly 1–3 m and are indicative only.
  • Plotting on the client's drawing is accurate to about 2–4 m.

GPR shows where something is likely to be, not what it is. Every report we issue recommends trial pits or hand excavation to confirm services before any machine digs. See how our GPR ground scanning service works, or GPR ground scanning in Abu Dhabi.
